A Happier Hour
After years of constant pressure to feed the content machine, Bex Weller found herself in the Land of Burnout.
At the end of last year, I wrote a Substack post about The Elephant in the Alcohol-Free Online World. It resonated with many of you. Welcome to all the new subscribers!
I’m continuing my series of interviews with people who have been part of the online alcohol-free world for years. I’m asking them what they’ve learned from doing business in this space. What are they doing when it comes to supporting their nervous system while navigating social media? And where are they now - a decade after quitting drinking?
Bex Weller is one of the early pioneers in the alcohol-free online space. She is an OG!
In 2014, she launched “Sexy Sobriety”—the first Australian virtual membership, course, and community. Bex led the way. She created the blueprint that many online alcohol-free courses follow today.
Bex has also written three books, and her international bestseller, A Happier Hour has sold over 100,000 copies!
In 2016, Bex asked me to be a guest in her “Sexy Sobriety” community. She interviewed me about neurotransmitters and the Craving Brain. It was the first public interview I did on this topic. As a fellow health coach, nutritionist, and entrepreneur, Bex and I have a lot in common. The biggest commonality was this: we didn’t have alcohol-free online business models to mimic in those early days. We figured it out as we went along. The alcohol-free online world was in its infancy.
Fast forward to 2024. So much has happened! Bex has decided to close her online business and return to the corporate world. She started writing her story “Knowing When to Let Go” on Substack. She says, “My burnout felt eerily similar to the final days of drinking.”
Last week, Bex and I sat down to chat again. This time I was the interviewer instead of the interviewee. Bex is such a gem. She’s the real deal. She has been a pioneer every step of the way. She listens to her inner knowing and courageously steps out and away from the crowd most of the time. Her contributions to the alcohol-free movement are vast. Her work has supported so many around the globe, and her positive impact continues. I loved connecting with Bex again. I know you’ll love our conversation too.
If you don’t know Bex, you’ll get to know her here. If you know her, and if she has been part of your alcohol-free inspiration, she’ll continue to inspire you in this interview about what she’s doing now.
